🌿Spotlight on: Dill
Pickles are the first thing I think of with this plant. Besides tasting yummy, did you know that dill has been used as a medicinal treatment since the Egyptians wrote about it on papyrus in 1550 BC?
It is a powerful antispasmodic and soothes the autonomic nervous system. The autonomic nervous system controls fight or flight and regulates body functions such as digestion and respiration. The hypothalmus acts as an integrator for these functions, receiving regulatory input from the limbic system. What is the best way to reach that system? Essential oils & our sense of smell!

Dill in my garden July 2020
The smell of dill is naturally calming to the nervous system. Inhaling the oil directly can help calm, and when diffused with German Chamomile it actually helps my oldest to focus (he has ADHD so this is hard for him.)
Did you know that dill was at one time the most well-known herb for soothing colicky babies? Dill is an effective remedy for gas & digestive complaints. I remember using an excellent gripe water on my colicky first born that was essentially fennel, dill, and water! Back then I purchased it over the counter (it was pricey too), now I’m glad that I can make my own.
We have tried a few drops of dill & fennel oils (vitality only) in a capsule to help with bloating discomfort and it worked great for us!
How do you use dill? Have any great recipes? I would love to try them! Put them in the comments below!
Much love & happiness, Ky
